LISTENING
COMMUNITY UPDATES |
|
 |
 |
In June, ten
IGLC trainers and alumni flew to Tel Aviv, Israel to deliver the first-ever
Possibility of Woman course to a room of almost 50 Israeli women.
When
they returned, Listening community members shared what stood out most about
their visit. Many expressed surprise about the tranquil, seaside resort-ness of
Tel Aviv. The "warzone" portrayed by the western media was curiously absent.
Many also reported being overwhelmed by the sheer emotional and
spiritual power of the Wailing Wall in Jeruselum. "Moved to tears" was a common
description of the experience.
Below is a sampling of the responses from
our questionnaire:
WHAT SURPRISED YOU MOST ABOUT THE
EXPERIENCE?
"I knew there would be translation issues and I was very
surprised how quick they got the concept of the tools and made the connection to
their listening and life decision." -- Jody Williams --
WHAT ABOUT
THE COURSE RESONATED AS UNIVERSAL AS YOU EXPERIENCED IT THROUGH THE EYES/EARS OF
THE WOMEN IN ISRAEL?
"Women 'universally' count themselves as last.
Israeli women are required to be in the military for two years along with the
men and yet the women attending the POW still had challenges with holding
themselves as equals." -- Carol McCall --
WHAT DO YOU THINK AND KNOW NOW
THAT YOU DIDN'T THINK AND KNOW BEFORE THE ISRAEL COURSE?
"I know that
trainers do not teach the POW, but share what they know to be true, guide where
they know one needs to be led....and as observers/witnesses, accompany all on
their journey." -- Eileen Fitzpatrick --
IF YOU WERE A REPORTER, WHAT
WOULD BE THE HEADLINE ABOUT THIS COURSE?
"Light bearers shine in Israel!"
-- Lyn Miller --

In the June
issue of this i-Zine, we asked you vote on the destination you'd prefer for a
Listening Cruise in 2005. Collectively, you answered "Hawaii, Alaska and The
Mediterranean please!"
Like the tools, we must focus on one and trust
the rest will come, so, of the three semi-final winners - Hawaii, Alaska and The
Mediterranean - please choose one for 2005.
You can respond by sending
your choice to rfloyd@listeningprofitsu.com. We'll announce the winner in our
next i-Zine.
Speaking of winners, as thanks for your participation, we
promised to send a free tape set to one cruise questionnaire respondent picked
at random. We are pleased to announce that Carmela Congdon from Stonington, CT
is our drawing winner!
Congratulations Carmela! Your free tape set is on
it's way.

Alumni Success
Stories is our salute to those in the Listening Community using the tools to
live a life of no regrets.
Greg's story of overcoming fear and choosing
an authentic life is a gift to anyone faced with the choice of following the
herd or following the
heart.

MY
STORY by Greg Hermsen
Life Purpose: “to contribute to the achievement
of others through love, joy, and acceptance.
Personal development has
come to mean “lifetime development” for me since my first Listening Course in
1997. I went to that course seeking “something” to support me with a recent
divorce, single parenthood, running a busy dental practice, and life in a rural
community.
More listening courses unearthed the fact that I was much
more than a dad, provider, son, dentist, and worker, and had more to offer the
world than was possible in a small town (pop. 3500) in South Dakota.
My
trusted listening community told me the truth even if it wasn't always what I
wanted to hear, and it supported me to move past the belief I was undesirable
and couldn't trust others with my heart.
An area of my life I suppressed
for years was my sexuality. Growing up, my frame of referance was limited to
the“traditional” marriages and famillies of my small, conservative, rural
community.
It followed that a big growth area for me was around my
sexuality. The Listening work's focus on integrity supported me to admit that
being in integrity meant accepting that I was a gay man. It seems so easy now,
yet I can recall the sweaty palms, tears, and fear I felt the first time I spoke
my truth to another human being. I was able to do this because of the safety I
found with those around me who shared my committment to personal
growth.
The process was an evolution for me. At first, I was only
comfortable saying I was bi-sexual. In time, being, truth and my process brought
me to a place “right for me”--I am a gay man.
“Stuff “ I made up would
happen, did not happen. No one left me, my true friends stood shoulder to
shoulder with me and even encouraged me to push past my comfort zone.
I
can't imagine my life if I had not attended that first listening course. People
who knew 1997 Greg can't believe the peace, happiness, and satisfaction in my
life today.
I'm proud to report I now call Seattle, WA home, I am an
IGLC Certified Trainer, a Certified Presenter for an endodontic (root canal)
instruments company, a great father and a great dentist.
I have become a
loving man unafraid of conflict. I acknowledge myself and others freely and
easily, and I listen with empowerment and openness.
(If you have
overcome an obstacle, achieved a goal or mended an important relationship as
result of your use of The Tools, please share your story with us. Send your
submissions to rfloyd@listeningprofitsu.com)

Dear Carol,
I am 44 years old and I still feel like my mother relates to me like a
child. I would like to shift my relationship with her to more of an equal womam
to woman, friendship relationship. What can I do to break the current cycle?
H.A. Maryland
Dear H.A. ,
First of all, thank your
mother for getting her job done...she raised you successfully...as in you are
not in jail, the mental hospital and/or on drugs (without prescriptions)...if
that is the case, you are a testimony to the "fact" that she did get her job
done...ACKNOWLEDGE her for a job well done...and THANK HER!!!...then let her
know gently/firmly that you are interested in being a "woman" with her...like
you would with any other woman that you are meeting for the first
time...different from being her "daughter/little girl"...take her to
lunch/ dinner and meet her...get to know "her"...different from knowing her
as your mother...who is/ was she before she had you, got married, had
children and so on...start there and enjoy the discovery...without
"judgement, criticism and condemnation".
In
Partnership! Carol
